Starcounter is a low-latency application server combined with the world fastest in-memory ACID database engine for rapid development of high-performance business applications. This removes demand for gluing heterogeneous systems such as DBMSs, in-memory caches, ORMs, client frameworks, application and Web servers. As result expensive hardware, software and multi-node clusters are left in past. We support a new breed of ERP, line-of-business software, telecom, ad-tech apps and game debs to beat their rivals.
Our development team ranges from PhDs in computer science to self-taught whiz kids. We are looking for an experienced researcher to join our query processing group. The main responsibility is to develop and maintain query processor, which is a highly complex component of the Starcounter DBMS. The focus of the position is on cost-based query optimiser and on efficient query execution.
The query processing group is responsible for query language specification and parsing, complex query optimisation, and efficient query execution in terms of kernel API with returning results to hosting environments. Tasks include interacting with different groups at Starcounter, utilising and coupling technologies from multiple computer science areas, and developing and maintaining a highly complex system.
Required skills:
• Excellent knowledge in database internals;
• Knowledge and experience in query optimisation and query processing;
• Experience in working with Relational and/or In-memory DBMSs;
• Solid background in mathematics;
• Proficient in algorithms and data structures;
• Industrial experience in R&D in the area of data management and data processing;
• PhD or similar degree in database internals, specifically in query optimisation;
• Strong publication records in the query optimisation and query processing;
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
• Ability to learn quickly and easily;
• Ability to work independently and in a team;
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Desired skills:
• Experience in functional programming;
• Experience in developing complex software system or component;
• Experience with .NET development;
• Experience with formal logic, calculus or algebra;
• Comfortable with cross-platform development (Windows, Linux, OSX, Free BSD).
