Duties
The position is part of the research program in genetics and neurological diseases and within this program, the senior researcher is expected to focus on cluster headache and related disorders.

The aim is to identify genetic risk and protective factors in cluster headache, to understand the role of identified candidate genes by studying where and how the gene is expressed in human and rodent tissue, and to identify any differences in gene expression between diseased and healthy individuals through the study of biological tissue. When possible, findings should be followed up by the development genetic animal models. Research will be based on clinical material collected from patients with cluster headache and controls in collaboration with clinicians at the Neurology clinic, Karolinska University Hospital.

Genetic and clinical data are entered into databases, hence experience in the analysis of large data sets, as from e.g. genome wide association studies, is important. The successful applicant will be responsible for the research program's growing biobank of DNA samples and related cell lines, and independently perform analysis, compile data in databases, and be responsible for the writing of scientific reports.

The applicant is expected to conduct her/his own successful research, and the documentation of own experiences as main supervisor of PhD students who has successfully finished their thesis is an advantage. He/she will also be the biobank manager at the Department of Neuroscience. The successful applicant is expected to seek external funding from Swedish and foreign organizations.
