SIPRI's European Security Programme is hiring a Programme Director and Senior Researcher to lead the programme.

SIPRI is an independent international institute whose core mission is to undertake research and activities on security, conflict and peace. SIPRI is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages women and non-European candidates to apply.

The SIPRI European Security Programme provides in-depth and authoritative analyses of the key conflict and security issues affecting contemporary European security, including impact of regional security and conflict developments in Europe (including the Arctic, the Baltic and the Black Sea regions), and global developments (including the impact of climate change) on the European security context. The programme's focus is to analyze developments in these areas in relation to the EU's CSDP, the increased role of NATO, and their impact on an evolving new security architecture in Europe.

The purpose of the post of Senior Researcher and Programme Director European Security is to continue developing the programme and its work, increase the scope of the programme, expand its staff and ensure the existing projects are funded and delivered upon. Candidates should have astrong knowledge of one or more of areas mentioned, and a profound interest in providing policy relevant analysis. The ideal candidate also has a talent for communication.

All SIPRI staff are expected to have a commitment to SIPRI's values and mission, and to contribute to the life of the institute. The position is based in Stockholm but might involve occasional travel.

Contract period
The contract period can initially last up to three years with the possibility of extension. The post is full-time. Subject to any restrictions on travel, the post requires that the candidate becomes a resident in Stockholm, Sweden, when employment starts. The salary package will be negotiated individually.
