Electrical design engineers develop the next-generation technologies in HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) that enables transmission of energy over long distances which provides billions to access electricity. Power Elctronics Semiconductor Valves form the backbone of the High Power Converter used in this application. As an electrical valve design engineer, you will work in an R&D organization on different development projects critical to Hitachi Energy needs, with the opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.
The current technology has enabled the connection of renewable energy such as large offshore wind and remote solar generators to the grid and brings clean energy to large cities. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.
Our team is a part of Hitachi Technology and Solutions Development in Ludvika, Sweden, and is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC converter valves. Our department has around 30 employees(increasing), focusing mainly on electrical and mechanical design of the HVDC converter valves, and work in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization.

Job description
In general, a large variety of tasks will be performed during development of new products. Below are some examples
Performing calculations and simulations to determine stress on different electrical components used in the product being developed.
Writing Requirement Specification for components to be used.
Collaborate with suppliers to find suitable components that fulfill the Requirements
Cross-department collaboration with e.g. Mechanical designers, to fit the suggested component in the product being developed.
Writing Test Specifications for tests needed to verify the proposed design.
Together with Test department, or third party test facility, perform the tests as specified, experience with working with laboratory equipment and testing is a therefore needed.
Analyze test results, write Test Reports.

Your background
A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent.
5 years or more of work experience from similar (power electronics) industries.
Experience of power electronics in high voltage products is valuable.
Knowledge of VSC system design and application is expected.
Knowledge of electrical field and electrical creepage is valuable.
You are curious and interested in sustainability and the ongoing energy transition, and want to work on key technologies to solve one of the biggest challenges for humanity today.
