As a Senior Medical Lead in Gothenburg, MD, you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives. GMD (Global Medicines Development) drives late-stage development of our innovative pipeline, transforming exciting science into valued new medicines and ensuring patients around the world can access them. AstraZeneca holds a unique position in Respiratory Disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), with a range of differentiated potential medicines in development by leveraging novel combinations, biologics and devices. The pipeline also has a number of promising assets in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases within areas such as psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, systemic lupus and rheumatoid arthritis



Job Description



Responsible for managing global or regional therapeutic or research projects or acting as an expert involved in the design, conduct, monitoring, data interpretation and reporting of individual clinical trials. Be able to deputize for global clinical lead and lead independently development activities for an indication or subset of the clinical development plan. Ensures projects adhere to Good Clinical Practice and regulatory requirements. Will be responsible for overseeing development of the functional strategy or acting as a renowned expert in own field.



Position Responsibilities



* Designs or manages the implementation of the Physicians strategy within Clinical Development both regionally and globally
* Uses expertise and knowledge of global issues to develop strategic Physicians objectives for inclusion into AstraZeneca's annual business objectives
* Defines strategies or leads AstraZeneca's response to complex technical issues for specific medical aspects in relation to current projects, new projects and various plans
* Provides expert advice in the area of specialism, influencing the development of statistics to the global business and Global Clinical Development
* Closely follows medical developments within assigned areas and disseminates new information within Clinical Development to transform trends and emerging data into new plans
* Liaises with the internal and external medical community to follow developments within areas of expertise
* Ensures an adequate number of qualified physicians is available for clinical testing to satisfy AstraZeneca's objectives in the clinical testing area
* Maintains a high degree of understanding and awareness on new and emerging medical development
* Contributes to or manages the development of the senior management team in area of expertise
* Follows important developments and trends in scientific literature and develops contacts with opinion leaders
* Leads regulatory communication and preparation of higher level documents



Position Qualifications:

* MD with specialist training and respiratory clinical development experience.
* Minimum of 5 and ideally more than 8 years in Industry, with experience in leading clinical trials to support approval(Phase 2-4).
* Experience in leading a clinical program to support an indication, including overall design, clinical development plan and TPP.
* Experience in writing clinical aspects of briefing documents for regulatory interactions and played a critical role in writing sections of a submission dossier.
* Previous experience in working cross functionally including leading cross functional study teams
* General understanding of statistics, safety, regulatory requirements.



Desirable additional qualifications:

* PhD in scientific discipline
* Extensive general medical knowledge in either Pulmonary Medicine or Allergy/Immunology or internal medicine.
