Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

The Department of Political Science is located in the Faculty of Social Sciences, which is one of Linnaeus University's five faculties. The faculty offers a dynamic, flexible and international learning environment with scientific activities in a wide range of fields. All study programmes aim to prepare students for a changing labour market in both the public and the private sectors. Research is conducted in a range of fields such as democracy development, corruption, children and youth cultures, the living conditions of young people and sustainable working life. Internationalization is a natural and significant part of research as well as education. Students have the opportunity to study or do internship abroad.

The Department of Political Science deals with core issues about politics, power and governance in societies. Our study programmes are based on a solid research foundation and both our research and educational environment address the many challenges facing the world. Today in many states, also established democracies, the democratic system and governance structures are under pressure. The European Union example of multilevel governance faces challenges due to divisions among member states and the decision by the United Kingdom to leave the community. On a global level, there are critical issues like global warming, humanitarian crises, extremism and terrorism. The study programmes at the Department of Political Science enable students to gain sound and critical knowledge about these current issues, both at the undergraduate (bachelor, advanced) and graduate levels.
