Kalmar Maritime Academy at Linnaeus University is part of the Faculty of Technology. About 650 students study on programmes and courses at Kalmar Maritime Academy which, for instance, offers educations in nautical science, marine engineering, and operation and maintenance engineering. In addition to first-cycle education, continuing professional development and contract education for the shipping and maintenance industry are important parts of the academy's activities.

Job description

The position includes teaching, research and development, supervision, and administrative tasks. Duties include teaching in the department's programmes, stand-alone courses as well as CPD courses and other contract courses. The main focus in teaching is on courses in Swedish and international law in the areas of maritime law, maritime insurance law, general transportation law and chartering law, but will also include other courses in nautical subjects depending on the applicant's qualifications, abilities and interest in these. The commission involves cooperating with students, doctoral students, colleagues, staff at LNU and relevant authorities, organisations and companies, both nationally and internationally.

Research is a priority area at the Maritime Academy. In the last few years the faculty have conducted a strategic programme to build up research in maritime science. The department encourages this work and offers research time as part of the position. There will be opportunities to influence and be part of the exciting continued development of the department's research.

The position also requires the employee to monitor trends in their subject area and developments in society which are important to the work of the department and the university. Collaborative skills and flexibility are essential, both in relation to groups of students and within the work teams and research environments.

Requirement

Qualified to be appointed senior lecturer is a person who has demonstrated pedagogical skills, has completed a doctoral degree inmaritime law and transportation law, or has the equivalent scientific competence with respect to the position's subject content and the tasks that are to be included in the appointment (HF, chapter 4, section 4).

According to the admission procedures at Linnaeus University the pedagogical skills are to refer to the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching as well as to supervision and examination.

Experience in the transportation and insurance sectors is required for this position.

Assessment ground

As assessment grounds for appointment as senior lecturer the level of skills considered a requirement to be qualified for the appointment is to be in force. The trial of the pedagogical skills is to be given as great importance as the trial of the scientific skills.

Other general merits include university teaching methodology or the equivalent knowledge gained in other ways. Experience of teaching methods in undergraduate education, experience of supervision, the ability to teach in Swedish and English, good knowledge of Swedish law, EU law and international law, e.g. contract law, tort law and labour law, good administrative skills and the ability to cooperate are considered as further merits.

When the university is to appoint new teachers the applicants are to be selected who, through a qualitative assessment of the whole picture what goes for competence and skills, are considered to have the best qualifications for the implementation and development of current tasks, and for contributing to a successful development of the activities.
