The Institute of Biomedicine has a broad and extensive activity in research and teaching with a focus on the living cell, how it works and how it interacts with its environment. With the help of such knowledge, we try to clarify the causes of various disease states and find new treatment options. This breadth is also reflected in our teaching in the pharmacist, physician, dentist, nurse and biomedical analyst programs. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology conducts research and teaching on infection immunology, mucosal immunology, vaccine development, tumor immunology, inflammatory diseases, cellular aging and hematopoiesis. Subject area description
Immunology involves studies of the cell-mediated and humoral aspects of immunity and immune responses that contribute to protection against infections.
Duties
The position includes teaching, course leadership and responsibility for the development of education in, above all, immunity to infections but also in basic immunology. Teaching in Swedish in these subjects in the medical program as well as in education at the undergraduate and advanced level in other programs is included in the tasks. The employment also includes research and postgraduate education in immunology. The holder is also expected to perform other tasks that are normally associated with a lectureship, such as administration and internal and external positions of trust.
Eligibility
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is stated in Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's Employment Ordinance.
Eligibility for the employment in question is a doctoral degree in immunology or another subject that the employer deems equivalent for the employment and demonstrated pedagogical skills. Teaching, including lectures, takes place mainly in Swedish and the applicant must therefore master one of the Scandinavian languages in speech and writing.
Assessment criteria
Assessment criteria for employment as a teacher are stated in Chapter 4, Section 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and the University of Gothenburg's Employment Ordinance.
In the assessment, pedagogical and scientific skills are given equal weight. When assessing the pedagogical skills, special emphasis will be placed on high pedagogical competence and teaching ability with significance for the employment's tasks. Special emphasis is placed on successful course development and course leadership in immunology, good teaching ability in immunity to infections and the ability to collaborate in teaching. Well-documented solid experience and good ability to teach using student-activating teaching methods are meriting.
In assessing the scientific proficiency, special emphasis will be placed on independent research efforts in the field of immunity to infections and the ability to conduct research with significance for the employment's tasks. Scientific skill refers to the quality and originality of research efforts, the quality of the applicant's proposed research project and its relevance to the job's tasks and the direction of the Department, as well as the ability to plan and lead research and postgraduate education. Particular emphasis is placed on the ability to attract research grants in national and international competition as well as collaboration with the surrounding society. Very great emphasis will be placed on previous or ongoing research in the field of immunity to infections, but current research may also include other, related areas in immunology.
In addition, administrative skills such as being a member of council(s) or board(s), handling of exams, etc. are taken into account as is ability to cooperate and collaborate in both teaching and science.
Employment
The employment is a full time permanent post and is located at The Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment is by agreement.
Additional information
If the applicant lacks formal higher education pedagogical education at the University of Gothenburg, the applicant is expected to have completed higher education pedagogical education or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge within one year of employment. The examination of such higher education pedagogical qualifications shall take place in a special order in accordance with a decision by the Vice-Chancellor.
