The Department of Law at Karlstad University invites applicants for the position of Senior Lecturer in Civil Law with emphasis on Immaterial Law
Background
The Department of Law at Karlstad University presently offers a wide range of courses to business, human resource and public administration students. Students majoring in Jurisprudence can study for a Bachelor’s or One-Year Master’s degree with specialisation and degree project in one of five areas, for instance, public law, commercial law and labour law.
In the fall of 2010 Karlstad University launches a jurisprudence study programme (180/240 higher education credits) focusing on commercial law and public law. Programme students can earn a Bachelor’s degree and move on to a One-Year Master’s degree.
The department aims to develop its research capacity and eventually establish a doctoral programme. Externally funded research can be pursued in the department, for instance, in conjunction with other universities, and/or in multidisciplinary research groups at Karlstad University. There is also the possibility of being allocated 20 percent research time in accordance with the general work agreement. Further allocation of time can be considered depending on the candidates’ submitted ideas and proposals.
Duties
The position as Senior Lecturer in Civil Law involves teaching in Immaterial Law. Some of these courses may require teaching in English, especially those offered to business and to media students.
Duties also include undergraduate and Master-level teaching as well as degree project supervision.
The successful candidate will have many opportunities to participate in the development of course content and pedagogical form, especially in respect to the new jurisprudence programme. In addition, there is the challenge of establishing the doctoral programme.
We welcome applicants who are excellent teachers and willing to contribute to developing the subject as well as the department’s external contacts. We also expect the successful candidate to apply actively for external research funding.
Requirements and assessment grounds
Applicants are required to have completed a LlD in Law, or have equivalent qualifications. In addition, pedagogical skills and training for teaching in higher education are required, or in other ways acquired equivalent qualifications. Applicants who lack formal pedagogical training can be considered for a temporary post, which will become permanent upon completion of such training. Equal weight will be paid to academic and pedagogical skills in the ranking of candidates.
Special consideration will be given to applicants’ ability to interact and work with others and capacity to take initiative and pursue issues and projects independently. Expert knowledge in the field of immaterial law is a merit.
We offer
a stimulating work environment with many opportunities to shape your own work. The Faculty of Economic Sciences, Communication and IT hosts many interesting and ongoing research projects, allowing the departments to benefit from the expertise in a number of fields. Here you will meet pleasant, dedicated and experienced colleagues.
Starting date is negotiable.
