Electrical design engineers develop the next-generation technologies in HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) that enable to transmit electricity over long distances and via submarine cables which provides billions to access electricity. As a electrical design engineer, you will work in R&D organization on a specific development project critical to Hitachi Energy needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve.
The current technology has enabled the connection of renewable energy such as large offshore wind and remote solar generators to the grid and brings clean energy to large cities. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas to make the power grid greener and smarter as we continue to push the technology forward.
Our team is a part of Hitachi Technology and Solutions Development in Ludvika, Sweden, and is responsible for the development of semiconductor based HVDC and SVC converter valves. Our department has around 30 employees, focusing mainly on electrical and mechanical design, and works in close collaboration with the global HVDC organization.
In this role, you get a broad network of contacts within Hitachi Energy's global organization and a good insight into how we work in different functions at Hitachi Energy. You will work in an inclusive environment with a team of competent, professional and friendly colleagues who will help you grow with the tasks.
Your responsibilities
Performing semiconductor calculations and simulations to determine voltage stresses and losses in the semiconductors and valve electronics and verify your calculations with hands-on high-power testing in our test laboratories.
Conceptualize, simulate, develop, and test power electronics circuits for high power transmission applications.
Design and specify components, collaborate with suppliers, and plan and run tests on prototypes.
Take responsibility for the design of electrical subsystems of our converter stations from ideation phase through concept and detail design to final test and verification.

Your background
A Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent.
At least 5 years work experience from similar industries.
Experience with working with laboratory equipment and converter prototyping and testing is a plus. If you have experience of power electronics in high voltage products even better.
You are a natural team player and enjoy collaborating with others, find clever solutions and solve problems together. You enjoy working agile and hands-on, and you are ready to take ownership of both the technology you're working with, and your own personal development.
You are curious and interested in sustainability and the ongoing energy transition, and want to work on key technologies to solve one of the biggest challenges for humanity today.
Experience with software like MATLAB or PSCAD, is valuable.
It will be a part of your job to communicate with other departments, team members, projects leaders and suppliers. It is therefore important that you are open-minded and straightforward in your communication.
As you will be part of a company that operates on the global arena, you must be proficient in English. Preferably you are also fluent in Swedish.
