Overview of the position
The Senior Communications Officer reports to the Chief Development Officer of the Tenure Facility. She/he will support the Development Unit in evolving a strategy where internal-external communications contribute to Tenure Facility funding goals, as outlined in the Tenure Facility Strategic Framework 2023-2027.
She/he will liaise with counterparts among partners, media and donors' media teams, and ensure Tenure Facility provides good, consistent communications outreach consistent with the Strategic Framework.
As part of the Development Unit, she/he will collaborate with the Unit, TF colleagues throughout the organization to develop content for internal and external audiences. She/he will provide input to the Development Unit's strategy and workplan, focusing on communications and initiate, monitor and facilitate delivery of outputs of current communication consultants, service providers, and institutional partners as needed, or as may be assigned by the Chief Development Officer.
The Position
Overarching responsibilities
Contribute to establishing the Tenure Facility as a highly credible and respected foundation among international development institutions and donors
Generate mutual trust and respect of Indigenous Peoples and local communities and their cultures, with full awareness of the intricacies of relationships among them and their allies and supporters
Contribute to a collaborative and resilient internal working culture for sustained progress on the Tenure Facility's strategic goals and objectives
Specific responsibilities
Development.
• Lead in developing and implementing the Unit's strategic goals for communications to support the Tenure Facility's fundraising goal
• Support the implementation of the Tenure Facility fundraising strategy, such that it is aligned with internal and external communications, and consistent with the Tenure Facility's Strategic Framework 2023-2027
• Participate in donor and other stakeholder initiatives to support the Development Unit's target of reaching broader donor audiences
• Curate events to engage donors and other stakeholders around issues, trends, and changes in line with the Tenure Facility's strategic framework.
Analysis, Networking and Learning.
• Networking with stakeholders and analyse Tenure Facility's communications niche, identifying its target audience, and aligning this with donor funding opportunities and trends
• Draft reports, analyses, and research documents in line with the Development Unit's strategy and target audience
• Contribute to the production of the Tenure Facility's resources and lessons learned from projects including stories, audiovisuals, photographs, etc, to inform all reporting and learning exchange
• Develop talking points, briefings and procure links with useful videos, slideshows, photographs for effective engagement of TF (ED, Board, Chiefs of Unit, others) in public events and in international arenas for sharing lessons, strategies, and tools to scale up the implementation of collective land rights
• Develop and update of audience-specific factsheets and messaging documents that communicate to climate change, development, and tenure reform constituencies
• Create and follow through on opportunities to build the TF audience
Strengthening Internal and external communications.
• Maintain continuous lines of communication within Development unit's team members, the Tenure Facility and its stakeholders and maintaining oversight over all critical communications issues.
• Strengthening Development Unit team members to perform communications tasks and deliver key results as outlined in the annual workplan
• Advise on key messages for social media channels, help design podcasts, documentaries, and other audio-visual products.
• Contribute to Development Unit's efforts to promote and ensure consistency of the Tenure Facility's branding and messaging
• Develop tools and train TF team to communicate the Tenure Facility's core messaging of how tenure rights result in achieving climate change mitigation, sustainable and just development, green growth, and other sustainable development goals.
• Conduct training needs assessments of Tenure Facility backed projects partners' training requests for developing its communications and outreach capacities and procure service providers as fits these needs
• Manage or share management of the Tenure Facility's communication consultants and service providers.
Qualifications and experience
· Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations or journalism. Other degrees are also welcome if the working experience is relevant to communications. A Master's degree is a plus.
• At least 7 Years experience supporting communications and/or public relations
• High-level knowledge and experience developing social media strategies and managing social media tools
• Track record of on-time and high-quality delivery of communication initiatives
• Strong writing skills, including the ability to effectively translate technical content for specific, non-technical audiences
• Strong visual design experience, including creating or contributing to print and web products
• Experience with graphic design and editing programs such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
• Front-end web design or web development skills, including use of HTML/CSS and JavaScript
• Proficiency in English is essential. Multilingual is a plus (French, Spanish etc)
• Additional qualities include among others, having worked in the field with IP and/or LC, a good communicator, a team player.
