We are in the process of recruiting postdoctoral fellows and researchers within medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, or other relevant subject area to an interdisciplinary industrial research centre aimed at addressing next generation drug development.

The rapid development of RNA and other oligonucleotide drug modalities is about to entirely change the drug discovery arena. But with these promising high molecular weight drug candidates we are also facing new and challenging problems; discovery and development of functional delivery solutions for RNA-based drugs is of importance for clinical success. To meet this challenge, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) has decided to invest in eight years of interdisciplinary and intersectional research. This has resulted in the foundation of FoRmulaEx - an industrial research centre (IRC) for functional RNA delivery. Headed by Chalmers University of Technology and with AstraZeneca as the lead industrial partner, the centre, which also includes Gothenburg University, Karolinska Institutet and additional partner companies, will enable academic research to bridge existing knowledge gaps and drive innovation in this area of high interest. Our goal is to create fundamental knowledge and novel technologies that will allow successful translation of RNA modalities into the clinic. This is thus a unique opportunity to work in a scientific and engineering area of great importance in a novel setting with industry and excellent calibre academic groups from various disciplines working hand in hand.

FoRmulaEx now invites applications for postdoc positions and researcher positions from exceptional physicists, chemists and biologists who want to join our team and are motivated to address the RNA delivery challenge. Successful candidates will be hired to fully funded positions at our three academic nodes: Chalmers University of Technology (up to 6 open positions) with principal investigators Fredrik Höök, Elin Esbjörner and Marcus Wilhelmsson, Gothenburg University (1 open position) with principal investigator Hadi Valadi and Karolinska Institutet (up to 3 open positions) with principal investigators Molly Stevens and Samir El-Andaloussi, in close collaboration with AstraZeneca and the additional partner companies: Camurus, Vironova, Evox and Gothenburg Sensor Devices.

One of FoRmulaExes research project; Quantification of Endosomal Escape and Functional Delivery, is placed at the Institute of Medicine, University of Gothenburg. For this project we are now hiring a researcher. You apply for this project at the University of Gothenburg website (click link to read more):

Quantification of Endosomal Escape and Functional Delivery

Academic Partners: Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg University, Karolinska Institutet.

Industrial Partners: AstraZeneca, Camurus, Vironova, Evox and Gothenburg Sensor Devices.

Job assignments

As a researcher, you will conduct research in an independent manner; however, often together with other researchers and PhD-students. You are expected to drive the project forward and independently seek for opportunities to present the work to the international research community, including participations in international conferences and networks.

The project (Quantification of Endosomal Escape and Functional Delivery) aims to identify the fate of transferred RNA in cells, e.g. translocation, translation, and degradation. However, the purpose of this study is to perform experiments along these lines using e.g. RNA FISH, RNA hybridization, Image streaming and qPCR.

Qualifications

To qualify as a researcher for this project (Quantification of Endosomal Escape and Functional Delivery) the applicant should hold a PhD in medicine, or another relevant subject.

Good academic skills in the subject area, specific within RNA biology, including biochemistry of RNA-binding proteins.

You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

• Proof of innovative research judged by your publication record

• Excellent English oral and written communication skills

• Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment

Employment

This is a time limited employment, 12 months, with te possibility of renewal, at 100 %, placed at the Institute of Medicine. First day of employment: 2018-01-01 or according to agreement.
