The Department of Biology and Environmental Science is part of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. The research activities within this multidisciplinary department include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology.
Project title: Use of Extremophilic Microorganisms in Microbial Fuel Cells
The research project is within a collaborative EU project proposing a sustainable alternative for metal recovery using microorganisms.
Applicants should have a minimum of a good undergraduate degree although candidates with a Post Graduate degree or corresponding experience would be at an advantage. Documented evidence of research in microbial fuel cells, bioelectrochemistry, or anaerobic culturing of microorganisms would also be an advantage.
Type of Employment: Full-time. Temporary position for six months, with eventual possibility of extension. The start date for the position will be as soon as the position can be filled.
