Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health

The department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health (BVF) is part of the Faculty of Veterinary medicine and Animal science. BVF conducts research and education in pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootology and food safety. The toxicology unit at BVF is a strong research section working with environmental toxicology, toxicological food safety and molecular toxicology (https://www.slu.se/en/departments/biomedical-sciences-veterinary-public-health/research-at-bvf/toxikology/).

Duties:

The environmental toxicology group at BVF is seeking a researcher that will work with assessment of chemical mixture toxicity. The researcher will be part of the FORMAS funded project RiskMix - "Risk modeling of mixtures of endocrine disrupting chemicals relevant to human exposure, using zebrafish embryo as model organism". The experimental work will include toxicity testing of human relevant complex chemical mixtures using adult zebrafish and embryos. Specific focus will be on adverse effects, internal exposure concentrations for physiological based toxicokinetics, gene expression and complex mixture toxicity modeling. The researcher should independently and actively drive the toxicity testing part in the RiskMix project, as well as actively participate in other projects within aquatic ecotoxicology. The researcher is expected to apply for research funding, coordinate work and write scientific papers in collaboration with the project team, as well as assist in supervision of students. The researcher will enter a strong research group with expertise in environmental chemistry and toxicology.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in environmental toxicology or equivalent field of science. Experience of aquatic laboratory work including handling of adult and embryo zebrafish and performing toxicity studies with zebrafish are requirements. Experience of microscopical assessement of embryo development toxicity, video assisted software for behavior assessment, molecular genetic analysis, and statistical analyses are also requirements. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are a requirement. Knowledge in environmental chemistry and fulfilled course in laboratory animal science is meriting. The candidate is expected to be capable and willing to take initiative and work independently as well as in a team. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.
