The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 380 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.The Institute is composed of the following five departments: the Department of Infectious Diseases, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, the Department of Pathology and Genetics, the Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine and the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology.The Mucin Biology research groups currently comprise about 25 researchers with some 30 more in collaborative groups, see also www.medkem.gu.se/mucinbiology/

Job assignments

Own research on mucins and mucus from the intestine and pancreatic cysts. Important is to analyze these in patient samples and also to utilize specific mass spectrometry methods and microscopy. The position also includes analyses of clinical patient records. A number of on-going projects shall be finished.

Qualifications

The applicant shall have good experience in working with mucins and mucus. Special emphasis is on utilizing clinical material and combining biochemical and clinical information. PhD and an absolute requirement is a Swedish Medical License and Board Exam in Gastroenterology as legal right to access patient records is required. Fluency in English and Swedish is required.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 6 months and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
