The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
The Institute is composed of the following five departments:
• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Pathology and Genetics
• The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
Job assignments
Highly motivated candidates with a strong technical experience in cell & molecular biology can apply for this position. Candidate will work on regulatory long noncoding RNAs that have been shortlisted using genome scale functional long noncoding RNA screens. Projects in the lab involve; 1) Characterization of the mechanisms that target long noncoding RNAs to chromatin (Pandey et al., Mol Cell 2008; Mondal et al.; Genome Res 2012, Mondal et al., Nature Comms 2015) 2) Exploring the functional role of long noncoding RNAs in cell differentiation programs and 3) Uncovering long noncoding RNA functions in tumor development and progression using selected cancer model systems (Gaurav et al., Cancer Cell, 2014 Nov 10;26(5):722-737). The selected candidate will work with tumor cell lines and primary tumor materials.
Qualifications
To be eligible for employment as a research assistant, applicants must have a PhD degree in science and considerable research expertise from his post PhD studies. The prospective candidate is expected to have extensive experience cell-based assays and good experience in molecular biology techniques. In addition, candidates with protein biochemistry are welcome to apply.
Employment
The employment is limited (temporary) for two years and full-time with placement at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
