Krefting Research Centre at Sahlgrenska Academy, Institute of Medicine is recruiting a researcher. The research group currently comprises of approximately 25 researchers, students, medical doctors and research nurses divided into three
research areas; epidemiology of asthma, mechanistic studies of inflammation, and extracellular vesicles, see also http://krefting.gu.se. At Krefting Research Centre one of the largest epidemiological studies of asthma and lung disease in Europe is combined with basic research into the molecular mechanisms that cause asthma. Cells release small nano-sized vesicles to the extracellular space. These extracellular vesicles have been shown to have vast biological functions but can also be utilized as vehicles for drug delivery and as biomarker, as several diseased cells release vesicles with altered protein and RNA cargo. Krefting Research Centre has over 10 years' experience of dissecting the RNA and protein cargo of extracellular vesicles as well as determined the biological function of extracellular vesicles in the immune system and in malignant
melanoma.

Job assignments
The successful candidate will establish; robust large scale isolation protocols for extracellular vesicles, efficient loading of molecules into extracellular vesicles, reliable uptake and deliver of vesicle cargo to recipient cells, and detection assays for biomarker discovery as well as determine the RNA and protein cargo of extracellular vesicles with different techniques. The tasks involves development of exosome therapeutics, that have the capacity to modulate, or totally block, crucial pathways in the mechanistic pathways of diseases such as asthma, and testing those in vitro and in vivo in experimental models. The candidate will be in close contact with involved project collaborators.

Qualifications
To be qualified for the position the applicants must hold a relevant PhD and has documented skills within the specific research field. The position requires documented experience from hands-on laboratory work and detailed knowledge in the field of extracellular vesicles. Highly motivated candidates with a track record of working with processing, isolation and analysis of subpopulations of
extracellular vesicles will be preferred for this project. Furthermore, the applicants should have documented experience from working with cell cultures, experimental in vivo models, processing of patient samples such as plasma, modifying extracellular vesicles, analysis of RNA and protein with molecular biology techniques. Experience of working with bacteria and bacteria-derived vesicles is a strong merit for the position. The successful candidate is expected to be able to work independently as well in collaboration, and be able to participate in supervision of students. The candidate should have a track record of publish scientific work in peer reviewed international journals. Excellent knowledge in written and spoken English is a requirement
