A 6 months researcher position is available within the research group led by docent Ali Harandi, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute for Biomedicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The focus of the research group is on vaccine evaluation, particularly on studying mode of action of vaccines and adjuvants. The research team is involved in several EU funded projects with the overarching objective of studying mode of action of vaccines.

The development of novel vaccines may be facilitated by a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of vaccines or their individual components as they pertain to their interaction with the immune system. The research group is currently involved in several projects with an overarching objective of improving our understanding of vaccine mechanisms of action. The research is done by employing cutting-edge transcriptomics and metabolomics technologies combined with conventional immunological methods. The researcher will be responsible for setting up methods and carrying out immunological analyses of biological samples retrieved from human and animals following vaccination.

A PhD in immunology and vaccinology and a documented postdoc in the field of immunology are requirement for this position. Extensive hands on experience and expertise in: preparing mononuclear cells from various human tissues, in particular blood, analyzing human immune cells using conventional methods, namely multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISPOT, primary cell cultures, multiplex cytokine analysis, and experience with Diva and FlowJo software and statistical analysis of data are required. The ability to work autonomously as well as in the research team consisting of researchers, doctors and medical personnel is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and time management and preparedness to work in multidisciplinary projects are required. Experience in working with trial volunteers and/or patients in a clinical study and to work with health care professionals are merit.
