Stockholm university announces a Subsititute position: research engineer / instrument technician at the Department of Meteorology

At the Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University ( www.misu.su.se ) we conduct research and education in an international environment within four main areas: Atmospheric physics, Dynamic meteorology, Physical oceanography and Chemical meteorology. In all these areas there is a strong focus on the climate and on processes important for the climate and its development. The department employs some 80 individuals, of which about 35 are scientists, 30 PhD students and 15 in the administration and the technical support. The department is part of the Bolin Centre for Climate Research ( www.bolin.su.se ) that together with three other departments at the university cover research of most of the important aspects of the climate system.

We are looking for a substitute (fulltime or parttime) for a research engineer / instrument technician who is on sick leave. The substitute position is for a time period of 6 month. An extention may become possible. Start date for the position is as soon as possible.

Tasks:
As research engineer / instrument technician you will be responsible for the development, manufacturing and testing of scientific instruments for use on sounding rockets. Measurement methods include optical measurements and measurements of electrical charges.

The work as research engineer / instrument technician is based on close collaboration with researchers and engineers at the department, at SSC Space (Swedish Space Corporation) and at other organisations.

Tasks that are part of the position are among others:

• Development and manufacturing of mechanics and electronics för optical and electrical instruments
• Test and calibration of scientific instruments
• Planning and collaboration concerning the integration of scientific instruments on sounding rockets

As research engineer / instrument technician you will be part of the department's TA group (the group for technical and administrative personnel). You are excpected to participate in the overall development of your work group and the department.This includes the development of work routines.

Eligibility:
We are looking for you with experience of development, manufacturing and testing of scientific instruments. Required are good computer knowledge and the ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing.

For the work as research engineer / instrument technician it is important to have good communicative and collaboration skills. It is important that you work accurately, structured and on your own initiative. The work requires the ability to analyze and solve problems, and to deliver results at given deadlines. You are expected to work independently, but also to participate in the overall development of the work group and the projects.
