Radiation Protection Systems Engineer

The Radiation Protection Group, part of the Environment, Safety & Health Division at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Radiation Protection Systems Engineer.

Description of directorate/division

The Environment, Safety & Health Division, reporting to the associate Director of ESH and Quality, is responsible for activities connected to safety (radiological safety, occupational safety, fire protection, emissions etc.) of the personnel as well as the public. Since July 1st 2017, the ESH Division has been re-organized forming two groups: the Radiation Protection (RP) Group and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Group. Presently, we are 6 persons in the RP group and in total 16 persons within the ESH Division.

Description of main responsibilities

As part of the Radiation protection group you will be involved in the development and installation of ESS's radiation protection systems. You will assist the program leader with the procurement, installation and commissioning of RP instrumentation with a focus on systems integration within ESS's SCADA infrastructure and the safety systems. Upon project completion you will become part of the operational RP team.

As a Radiation Protection Systems Engineer in the RP Group, you will:

• Organise and supervise the work needed to install and commission equipment for the Radiological and Environmental Monitoring System (REMS) for the accelerator, target, radioactive waste facility and experimental areas of ESS
• Define and implement the scope and acceptance criteria for new REMS sub systems to be integrated within ESS's SCADA and safety systems
• Manage the infrastructure and operation of provisional HMI, SCADA & databases until the definitive REMS SCADA is implemented
• In collaboration with the RP team leader you will assist in the definition of operations manuals with respect to radiation monitoring

Qualification:

• University degree in relevant engineering field with knowledge of measurement techniques for ionising radiation or holding the requisite radiation protection qualification/certification
• Expertise in large scale distributed instrumentation control systems
• 10-15 years of proven experience in installation and commissioning
• Knowledge or certification in project management would be advantageous

Duration & Location

The position is permanent with six a months' probation period. The position is to be filled as soon as possible. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
