It will be your role to lead inhalation science within the Respiratory and Inflammation Bioscience Department, in vivo Pharmacology Section. To devise, champion and develop scientific areas and be responsible for inhalation pharmacology and lead scientist within a number of inhaled drug development projects. The role will require work across disciplines (i.e. DMPK, PARD, Formulations, Safety and Development) to lead discussions on efficacy, effect duration, lung dose, formulation quality control, safety and irritation markers. Drive bridging of efficacy and safety markers for predictability for inhaled compounds. Be lead responsible for inhalation studies conducted in collaborations both internally and externally. The role holder will also be expected to maintain and build a competitive pre-clinical inhalation capability contributing to the Inhaled Centre of Excellence in Mölndal.
The Role
The Associate Principal Scientist coaches junior scientists and provides expert advice and interpretation of complex data. Provides disciplinary scientific leadership and represent the department at interdisciplinary meetings internally as well as externally. Will also be expected to take a role in evaluating and managing external collaborations, assessment of in-licence opportunities and ensure outsourced work meets local and global standards. The role will require a person with scientific and drug hunting skills, to form networks within and outside the company to further understand how preclinical pharmacology can help predict human efficacy for diseases such as COPD and poorly controlled asthma.
Requirements
We are looking for a scientist with a PhD or equivalent background with extensive experience of respiratory animal models and translational aspects of these (including limitations) to the clinic. Experience in other related areas (such as Inflammation/Immunology) is also valuable. Excellent team playing and communication skills are needed. Proven ability to form networks across boundaries. Good scientific publication record.
Preferred Requirements
Excellent scientific laboratory skills and in depth knowledge of practical scientific issues of inhalation pharmacology. Knowledge in respiration physiology and inhaled route of drug delivery, inhalation technologies and devices used in drug discovery. A background in correlation of lung dose to the efficacy and effect duration and knowledge of respiratory inflammation, immunology and safety pharmacology of inhaled compounds is preferred.. An authority on the irritancy potential (or lack of it) of drug project compounds. Knowledge of the Discovery-Safety-Development interface for inhaled projects and quality control of inhaled / locally delivered formulations for reproducibility of results in acute / chronic model of respiratory diseases. Demonstrated hands on experience in testing and progressing inhaled compounds from preclinical models to decision making in selecting / deselecting for candidate drugs.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
