JOB DESCRIPTION
Axis is on a journey where software, applications, systems and connected services have an increased business and technical focus to complement our world class product portfolio. As R&D Director Firmware Platform, you are responsible for managing the firmware platform organization and its management team and to actively contribute to Axis overall journey ahead. You have the overall responsibility and your main tasks will include:
Strategic planning and execution, supporting the commercial and technical roadmap Organizational development and recruitment Active role in developing Axis’ overall software agenda as part of the Software management team, and as the leader of the firmware platform organization Setting and delivering on strategic targets Speaking partner and liaison in strategic and technical discussions towards product management, solutions management, product development as well as technology platform organization Influence and optimize internal and external development efficiency Escalation point in operational and project matters
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
We believe you have a Master’s degree in computer science (or similar) and documented leadership skills, preferably with experience also from leading a management team with focus on organizational development including a strategic agenda around software.
You have experience of agile ways of working and you enjoy networking with people in different positions and departments. You lead by example and you’re passionate about software development. You are a person who enjoys taking responsibility and you excel at motivating and encouraging the people you work with.
We also believe you have a genuine interest and talent in leading people and organizations. It is important for you to know and understand your employees, and you will do whatever it takes to make their situation as good as possible while still getting the most out of your organization. You find it easy to interact with individuals as well as organizations, and can negotiate when needed. You combine the skill of listening with the skill of deciding, and can find a good balance in between the two
Experience from working with open source, embedded and connected platforms is a plus.
Firmware Platform Unit
The Firmware Platform unit is part of the Software organization at Axis R&D. It is responsible for developing, releasing and maintaining the firmware platform code based on Linux, open source and proprietary components including an SDK that is used in the Axis product portfolio. Today the organization has three functional engineering team focusing on streaming, network and framework, and storage and APIs, and as one next step we are looking at increasing our cross functional development capabilities with a forth development team.
The organization works closely with other parts of the R&D organization, both other teams working with firmware development and product development as well as teams working with solutions, applications and services that connect to Axis devices through the firmware platform SDK and interfaces. The organization also has interfaces to partners that develop embedded applications for Axis products as well as system and application partners that integrate Axis products into their solutions. The organization is a key hub in Axis internal R&D eco system and the external eco system consisting of partners as well as the open source communities.
