The European Spallation Source is one of the largest science and technology infrastructure projects being built today. The project includes the most powerful linear proton accelerator ever built, a five-tonne, helium-cooled tungsten target wheel, state-of-the-art neutron instruments, a suite of laboratories, and a data management and software development centre. It is a brand-new Big Science organisation and we are building it from the ground up. The ESS will be a user facility, welcoming researchers from around the world to perform experiments using the neutron instruments and associated facilities.

About the role:

The Technical Projects Group of the Neutron Scattering Systems division provides the engineering expertise to support the ESS european partners in the construction of 15 neutron instruments at the ESS. As Project Engineer you will provide engineering leadership and project management expertise to support one or more european partner institutes to deliver world class instruments to ESS.

Your main responsibilities and tasks will include:

• Preparing and following the instruments installation plans and liase between instrument partners and ESS to coordinate the instruments construction.
• Take main responsibility for coordinating work, activities and deliverables, according to the project schedule and ESS requirements.
• Advise the instrument's Project Manager of any identified issues and risks associated with a work package.
• Drafting, reviewing and managing technical and project documentation for the instrument.
• Represent the teams in the regular project meetings and report on the progress of the work packages.
• Manage specific issues and risks as directed by the instruments Project Manager.

About you:

As the successful candidate you:

• Have a degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or similar relevant technical area, in combination with more than 5 years working experience, for example as a construction crew supervisor.
• You have leadership experience and enjoy interacting with colleagues and contractors from different backgrounds, as well as with In kind partners, in an international context.
• As a person you take initiative and work proactively, and have the ability to make decisions, in alignment with rules and regulations.
• It is an advantage if you have dealt with installation work in a scientific or technical facility or you have design experience with CATIA V6 or similar CAD package.
• You are used to working in Microsoft Office and also Enovia and CATIA, or similar systems.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement, as it is the working language at ESS. Knowledge in Swedish, German and/or French is an advantage.

Duration & Location

The position is a fixed-term, full-time, position with a duration of 3 years. Your workplace will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The deadline for applications is 15 October 2023.
