The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health is a part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. The department is responsible for undergraduate education, research and research education in the subject fields pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, immunology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, epizootology and food stafety.

Subject Area
The subject area encompasses veterinary pharmacology with the main focus towards both preclinical and clinical research in the fields of drug dosing, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and drug stafety - in vitro and in vivo. At the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health, the subject is encompassing our domestic animals such as horse, dog, cat, sheep, goat, swine, poultry and fish.

Duties
The role includes the following responsibilities and duties:

• develop and lead internationally successful research within the subject
• develop, lead and participate in clinical and theoretical teaching on basic-, advanced-, and research education level, within the subject
• participate in the research education and supervise doctoral students
• take responsibility for supervision of candidates participating in international (residents) and national specialist training within the subject
• actively apply for external research funding both nationally and internationally
• collaborate with researchers within SLU
• cooperate with researchers and other actors outside of SLU
• develop and maintain national and international network with academia, industries and the surrounding society
• communicate research findings and other relevant knowledge with the society
• perform administrative tasks and duties within the department, faculty and university
• contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and the university
• ave Swedish as a working language within 4 years.

Qualifications
The successful applicant shall:

• have a veterinary degree and a doctoral degree
• have the qualifications required for appointment as an associate professor (docent) or equivalent scientific competence, in the subject area
• have demonstrated scientific expertise and actively conduct preclinical and clinical veterinary research within the subject area of the professorship
• have demonstrated teaching expertise and the ability to integrate research and academic perspective into their teaching
• have documented experience of being the main supervisor for doctoral students
• have the ability to lead and develop a successful research program
• have successfully competed for external research funding
• have a good command in English, both orally and in writing.

Assessment criteria
The degree of expertise required for eligibility for employment as a professor shall primarily be used as the assessment criteria for the position.
When assessing an applicant 's research expertise, the following will be taken into account:

• completed research activities and ongoing research
• the ability to independently initiate and conduct successful and internationally recognized research
• the ability to obtain external research funding in competition, or via collaboration.

When assessing an applicant 's teaching expertise, the following will be taken into account:

• planning, implementation, examination and evaluation of teaching and educational programs both clinically and theoretically
• experience of clinical and theoretical teaching in veterinary pharmacology
• supervision of doctoral students
• pedagogical vision
• pedagogical courses for higher education or equivalent knowledge.

Furthermore, the assessment will consider documented experience of:

• collaboration with society
• leadership and development of both academic work and personell
• communicate science to the general public
• communicating research and development work to relevant actors in society
• veterinary clinical work.

When assessing the applicant 's qualifications, equal weight will be given to teaching and research expertise, respectively.
The position will be offered to the person who, after a qualitative overall assessment, is assessed to be most suitable to carry out and develop the above mentioned duties and to contribute to the positive development of the organization.
