The Institute of Biomedicine has a broad and extensive involvement in both research and education. In both of these areas, our focus is with fundamental knowledge of the living cell -
what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the
causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. In order to strengthen our research profile in cancer biology, we are now recruiting a Professor in molecular cell biology. The successful candidate is expected to study intracellular signaling
pathways in eukaryotic model organisms. The successful candidate should conduct internationally competitive research. As a part of the position, the successful candidate is expected to contribute to teaching in histology and molecular cell biology.

Subject area
Molecular Cell Biology, specializing in intracellular signaling

Specific subject description
Molecular Cell Biology, specializing in intracellular signaling refers to the task of describing intracellular signaling pathways and their function at the molecular level.
Job assignments
We are recruiting a professor to conduct internationally competitive studies of intracellular signaling, with a focus on cancer biology. The Institute of Biomedicine has extensive experience in work with mammalian model organisms and we therefore welcome candidates with expertise in other model systems, such as Drosophila melanogaster. Responsibilities include research and graduate education in histology and molecular cell biology. The successful candidate will also
contribute to our undergraduate education in histology and molecular cell biology.
The holder is also expected to perform other duties normally associated with a professorship, such as administrative tasks, internal and external positions of trust, and also to represent the
subject nationally and internationally.
Eligibility
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher
Education Ordinance.
Demonstrated scientific and pedagogical skills.

Assessment
The first assessment criterion is scientific skills, the second assessment criterion is equally administrative and teaching skills. The applicant must have demonstrated scientific and teaching
skills relevant to the subject.
Documented expertise in the subject of histology is a requirement, since the applicant shall work to actively strengthen both the scientific environment, as well as the undergraduate education, in
cell biology and histology. Significant experience of genetic work with Drosophila melanogaster is considered a strong merit. Ability to cooperate as well as ability to interact with the community will also be considered.
Applicants without education in higher education pedagogics are expected to undertake such within one year of taking up employment.
