We are looking for a driven and motivated Powertrain Engineer to join our Drilling team and work in the Research and Development (R&D) department within Atlas Copco Underground Rock Excavation (URE).

Job description
As powertrain engineer in our R&D function you will be involved in all phases of the design process, from new development, customer orders, product modification and maintenance to testing at the test mine facilities. The work involves system design together with different suppliers, bill of material, testing and documentation.

You will work with the powertrain components such as diesel engines, coolers, transmissions, axles, and tires. The work involves matching the different components to a well-balanced system including calculations, testing and documentation. You will mostly, in project format, work with new development projects, product maintenance, base development and customer orders.

A part of the work will be focused on energy efficiency, cost reduction, part reduction and to optimize the powertrain systems for electric/hybrid drives with respect to manufacturability, quality and serviceability.

You will work in close cooperation with other group members and colleagues at R&D and have close contact with other departments in Örebro, for example technical service, purchasing and marketing. Contacts with customers and suppliers around the world is also a part of your work.

Skills & Knowledge
We considered it meritorious if you have worked with similar tasks, such as drive train installations and have a genuine interest in motors or machines. You preferably have a university degree in mechanical engineering, B.Sc. or M.Sc. but equivalent knowledge is also desirable. Maybe you have technical knowledge from working with construction machines, knowledge in the powertrain field from personal interests or have worked with similar machines and components before in another role. The CAD and PLM system we use are ProEngineer and Teamcenter and we consider experience from these systems a merit.

It's also meritorious if you have knowledge about electrification as we now develop powertrain systems for electric/hybrid drives. Educational orientation of vehicle /excavators/ crane or combustion technology are also considered a merit together with experience of working with projects or experience of leading projects from start to finish. English is our corporate language and is widely used, both in spoken and written form. Hence, we assume that your English skills are good. Swedish language are considered a merit.

Personality
To be enable to enjoy the work you need to be self-sustaining, plan your work effective to meet deadlines, and willing to take responsibility. You have a structured and analytical approach, and also like to work with details as well as get the job done. You enjoy to combine theory and practice. This job requires a lot of collaboration both internally and externally, so good interpersonal and communication skills is necessary to do a good job. An enterprising and goal oriented personality are desired since the work is conducted with a lot of freedom and responsibility. It 's important that you are curious and want to develop and learn more about the powertrain field.
