Job assigment

The Glia-Immune Interactions Lab is looking for a post doc to investigate the role of the glia-lymphatic (glymphatic) system and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in neuroinflammation.

The main animal model planned for this project is the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model of multiple sclerosis.

The work will involve classic EAE and adoptive transfer EAE, which is obtained when myelin-reactive T lymphocytes are introduced into naive mice. The research project is highly translational and once methods are set up and hypotheses validated in animal models the research will involve patient samples.

The work should be done independently and in collaboration with other members of the research team and international collaborators on occasion. The work will involve setting up cytokine assays, taking CSF samples from mice, performing flow sorting of cells from lymph nodes, CSF, brain and spinal cord. Assistance will be provided in terms of technical help, as needed.

The work may also involve management of transgenic mouse colonies, in vivo imaging, data analysis and statistics. The selected candidate will be given the training needed to excel in the job within the lab and collaborators at Lund University or abroad with the goal to publish high impact papers.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in life science with a focus on immunology or neuroimmunology.

• Proficiency in characterization and purification of lymphocytes by FACS or flow analysis is highly desirable.

• The successful candidate will also have experience in at least 2 of the following skills: MACS sorting, cytokine assays, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), immunohistochemistry, rodent surgeries and mouse colony management.

• Demonstrated ability to design, conduct and analyze experiments.

• Good communication skills (for example through documented proficiency in English), excellent time management, and the ability to interact with the research community and building networks.

• International experience will be valued.

• The evaluation will also take personal qualities into consideration, as strong interest in the subject, motivation to produce high impact results, a strong drive to excel, creativity, ability to generate hypothesis, design experiments and solve technical problems.
