The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focus on increasing our knowledge of the aetiology for different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors, database administrators and administrative personnel, in total approximately some 250 staff. The department is situated in campus Solna. Further information can be found at ki.se/meb

Division
The staff of 250 persons at MEB includes 21 full professors and over 60 graduate students.

The department is one of the biggest departments of epidemiology in Europe. Unique resources and prerequisites - such as the Swedish Twin Registry, several large prospective studies, ongoing nation-wide case-control studies, large nation-wide databases including the Cancer Registry and the Patient Registry, record linkage capabilities and access to clinical data as well as biological material - are effectively explored at the department.

The psychiatric epidemiology group comprises 5 professors/associate professors, 1 guest professor, 2 post docs, and 15 PhD-students. The group is involved in a wide variety of psychiatric research projects, including population-based cohort and case-control studies, twin and family studies, survival analyses, predictive modeling, genetic epidemiology and bioinformatics.

Duties
Our group use different genetically informative samples and designs to study the interplay between genes and environments in the development of health and behavioral problems across the life span. In this project there will be possibilities to use three longitudinal twin studies (combined N>25,000) and one family study. TCHAD (age 8-25) has 5 waves of questionnaires and DNA. CATSS (age 9-18) consists of telephone interviews with parents of all 9-year-old twins in Sweden, DNA collection, follow-ups (age 15 and 18) and clinical examinations. PETSS (age 5-7) includes neuropsychiatric testing over the internet. The family study is based on a very large register linkage (N>15 million) with kinship information. In this project, we will develop new statistical models, analyze causality and study how genes and environments influence intergenerational transmission.

Aim 1: Investigate the importance of genes and environments for the development of mental health problems from childhood into adult age with a focus on:

(a) severe psychopathology,

(b) co-morbidity,

(c) developmental trajectories, and

(d) the interplay between genes and environments.

Aim 2: Use twin and family designs to identify

(a) environmental risks (controlling for genes),

(b) risk genes, and

(c) mechanisms for parent-offspring associations.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in health sciences, psychiatric genetics, clinical epidemiology, or statistics/biostatistics. The applicant should be skilled in advanced multivariate statistics and have ample experience with publishing English research articles. Interest in psychiatric research is a prerequisite and an interest in statistical/methodological issues is an advantage.

Appointment will be for 2 years, with a possible extension after evaluation.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

• A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
• A complete list of publications
• A summary of current work (no more than one page)
• Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
• Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)
The application is to be submitted through the MyNetwork recruitment system.
