The research environment Future Energy at Mälardalen University (MDH) announce a Postdoctoral position in the intersection of Energy Engineering together with the domains Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) and/or Cyber-Physical Systems. Future Energy Center is one of the prioritized research environments in the university and conducts research with high scientific excellence. Situated in the "Energy capital of Sweden" research focus is on high quality scientific results in close co-production with the surrounding society, targeting both high relevance for our industrial partners as well as for public bodies. We offer a creative, strong and international research environment with a mixture of established and young researchers, with good opportunities to continue to develop individuals, their career and research network, both academic and industry-wise.

MDH in Eskilstuna and Västerås is one of Sweden's biggest university colleges with its 14 000 students and 900 employees. It has a long tradition of cooperating with society and has entered strategic agreements with both the public and the private sector. Most study programmes fall into four main areas: economy, health and welfare, education, and technology. With its research, which often takes the form of co-production on the regional, national and global levels, MDH aims to generate useful solutions for societal development. In 1999, MDH was the world's first university to be environmentally certified, and in 2006, it was the first higher education institution in Sweden to be certified for its work environment.

Position description
The collaborative project World-class Energy Solutions is announcing a postdoctoral position in the intersection of Energy Engineering and the domains Information & Communication Technologies and/or Cyber-Physical Systems.

In the project, we will develop a novel virtual infrastructure to collect and process various data streams from sensors in the smart and sustainable cities. This information will be the base for more advanced energy system studies as well as to orchestra more active buildings/end-users as controllable component in the energy systems. Our work will utilize existing techniques for handling large amounts of data, to interconnect information from various parts of the city and to refine these with novel methods in modelling and simulation. The aim is to predict how novel technologies will impact and benefit the future cities, their energy systems and citizens.

The goals of this position includes:

• To contribute to an effective methodology how to describe, classify and monitor various parts of a city.
• To propose and contribute to effective structures to store, process, share and utilize data streams from key infrastructures of a city;
• To develop tools that could be used to verify the functionality and outputs of novel energy-efficiency and/or renewable technologies;
• To elaborate strategies for decision support and control based on information from remote components (such as buildings, end-users, EVs, distributed generation) in the energy systems.

The position require an interdisciplinary research interest including the targets mentioned above.

The position is a temporary employment of 2 years.

Qualifications requirements
The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in Energy, Electrical and/or Computer engineering/science or similar. In particular, the applicant should have a background in either measurements, communication & sensor technologies, big data, data mining, and/or cyber-physical systems. A genuine interest and documented experience in energy-related domains towards energy-efficient, intelligent and sustainable aspects on cities, energy networks, and/or buildings..

The position requires a strong motivation for research, good verbal and written communication skills in English.

Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organisation.

Merit
An interest to apply academic knowledge and to do research in cooperation with industrial partners as well as experience from working in projects that involve achieving both academic and industrial related goals.

A background that closely relates to one or more of the four goals above will be a strong merit. The applicant should in the application explain how his/her competence matches these goals.
