Information about the research and the division
The research at the Materials Physics Division at the Department of Physics focuses on the studies of the fundamental properties of materials ranging from soft to hard hierarchical materials, liquids and glasses, complex oxides, and quantum matter. Our research aims to understand the relationships between the microscopic interactions and the macroscopic functions of the materials to develop and optimize the next generations of materials that could be implemented in future technological devices. At present, the division comprises five faculty members, two assistant professors, thirteen Ph.D. students, ten postdocs, and one technician. We strive to provide a stimulating, motivating, and collaborative research environment.

This interdisciplinary project on quantum skyrmionics is a collaborative effort between Yasmine Sassa group at the Physics Department, Attila Geresdi and Saroj Dash groups at MC2.

The group of Yasmine Sassa, where the researcher will be embedded in, works on the elaboration and characterization of quantum materials, ranging from superconductors to topological magnetic spin textures such as skyrmion. Various experiments are conducted in our home laboratories, but also at large-scale facilities all over the world. We have an excellent expertise in X-ray, neutron scattering/spectroscopy and muon spin rotation techniques, and we are actively involved in the new instrumental developments that Sweden is implementing with the MAX IV and European Spallation Source (ESS) facilities. Over many years we have also developed a strong and fruitful collaboration with theoreticians, both locally and internationally.

This project, supported by the Excellence Initiative Nano, is a collaborative effort with the the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience. The postdoctoral researcher will have the privilege to work closely with experts in quantum materials and technologies, and benifice the infrastructure of both departments.

Major responsibilities
As a postdoctoral researcher, the focus of your work will be the fabrication and characterization of low-dimensional thin films/multilayers of transition metal (TM) compounds and 2D magnetic van der Waals materials. You will work with state-of-the-art deposition systems and large-scale infrastructure for advanced charaterizations. You will interact and exchange ideas with external academic collaborators, and will present your results in international conferences. You are expected to do research together with Ph.D. and MSc students. The working language of the group is English.

Qualifications
You must have a Ph.D. degree in physics (applied physics, engineering physics, materials physics) or an equivalent degree, with knowledge and interest in condensed matter and materials physics. You are expected to have experiences on thin film growth and characterizations methodologies.

The position requires good communication skills in written and spoken English. If you do not have English or a Scandinavian language as your mother tongue, you need to provide documentation of good communication skills in English, typically evidenced by an English language test and/or exemplified during the interview process. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
