Kort beskrivning av företaget: The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them. At present, the institute has about 350 employees and approximately 290 million SEK in total assets.

Titel: Postdoctoral fellow in Mucus and goblet cells

Beskrivning av arbetsuppgifter: The project aims to understand the different types of goblet cell identified in the intestine. These cells are specialized to produce and secrete mucus which protects the epithelium from the microbiota. We have in previous studies observed a number of different subtypes of goblet cells, but knowledge about their different expression profiles and functions is lacking. In this project we will now characterize these different cells in detail. Job assignments: The work will include preparation of intestinal epithelial cells from animals and humans. The cells will be sorted by FACS sorting. The cells will be analyzed to obtain the different subtypes of goblet cell present in the intestine. The study will include transcript analysis by RNA-seq and single cell sequencing. Proteins will be analyzed by mass spectrometry and immunoblot of cell lysates. Protein localization will be analyzed by immunostaining of whole tissue and sections using confocal microscopy. Cell markers will be verified using flow cytometry. The study will also involve cell culture, ex vivo analysis of mucus and basic biochemistry. You will need to be able to work independently with the project, but also to collaborate within the research group. You are expected to analyze data independently and write papers for publication. The main language in the lab is English.

Beskrivning av kvalifikationer: Eligibility: An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at Göteborg University. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application. The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance. Assessment: The applicant should have good knowledge in the protective barriers and immunology of the intestine from his/her PhD. Experience in working with animals (mice) should be supported by documentation. Experience in confocal microscopy, epithelial cell preparation, FACS sorting and RNA-seq analysis is strongly preferred, in addition to experience in analysis of data from these methods. Basic knowledge in cell culture, molecular biology and biochemistry are advantageous. Previous experience in sample preparation for proteomics, cell sorting using FACSJazz, analysis in FlowJo, and work with 10x Genomics Chromium are considered merits. Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
