Postdoctoral fellow in Medicine

Our primary research focus at department of molecular and clinical medicine is on metabolism, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. We support and promote research and teaching in translational medicine to improve health and to benefit society.

Specific subject description
Today, almost 1.8 million individuals are living with cardiovascular diseases of these, a large amount of these individuals suffering from coronary heart disease (CHD). Treatment for CHD
of consist of both medical therapies and surgical interventions (CABG, coronary artery bypass grafting procedure) with the purpose to restore the blood flow to the myocardium. It is
important to examine how changes in medical treatment and revascularization methods reflect the impact outcome in patients with CHD.

Job assignments
The aim of this project is to implement and perform epidemiological studies among individuals who have underwent cardiothoracic surgery regarding morbidity and mortality with focus on age and gender differences in medication treatment and socioeconomic status.

The work mainly consists of conducting extensive statistical and epidemiological analysis, including identification of cohorts involves individuals who have underwent cardiothoracic
procedures by using Swedish national registers. Therefore we require that the applicant must have previous experiences and knowledges of conducting epidemiological analysis. In addition,
deep knowledges in cardiothoracic surgery is required. There are opportunities to work in team with colleagues, however, the task and position demanding the applicant to be independent

Eligibility
To qualify as a postdoctoral researcher the applicant should hold a PhD in a relevant subject.

Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years from the application deadline.
An achieved doctoral degree in medicine not older than 3 years counting from last date of application is compulsory for a position as post-doctor.

Assessment
We require that you have a holder of a doctoral degree in medicine (PhD or equivalent) with experiences in working with cardiovascular epidemiology including epidemiological studies in cardiothoracic surgery. We emphasizes that you have documented experiences of working with Swedish registry based research and deep knowledges in cardiothoracic surgical treatments.


To succeed in this project we believe that you have personal qualities and abilities such as cooperation in team and initiative, flexibility, accuracy, ability to work independently, and
knowledges in writing and speaking English and Swedish.

The Applicant must finance the position himself/herself with own grants or scholarships to at least 50%.
