Subject area

Liquid biopsies and single-cell analysis in sarcoma.

Subject area description

One of the great challenges in cancer care is to measure the effectiveness of a treatment. The methods that are applied today are often insensitive and imprecise, resulting in both over- and under treatment. The goal of this project is to develop and apply methods that enable analysis of individual cells and molecules to improve cancer care. Studies of individual tumor cells allow us to understand why some cells die and others develop therapy resistance, while the measurements of individual tumor molecules in body fluids allow us to monitor how well treatment is progressing over time. We work with a variety of tumor types with a focus on sarcoma and breast cancer. The study is focused on applications where the applicant has the opportunity to influence the direction of the project.

The project involves the handling of clinical samples, cell cultures and individual cells. Methods to be used relate to cell biology and molecular biological techniques, including cell cultures, protein analysis and different NGS methods. The research group is located at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center, which conduct both basic and clinical research, with an emphasis on translational cancer research.
