The Krefting Research Centre brings together a broad approach into understanding the epidemiology and pathophysiology of asthma, with the short- and long-term goal to improve management of asthma patients in general. A major focus of the Centre is to increase the understanding of patients with different types of asthma, what is usually called "phenotypes of asthma". Current evidence argues that asthma has different immune mechanisms in subgroups of asthma. Thus, a part of the research performed at Krefting focus on studying how the immune system drives characteristics of these phenotypes.

Subject area
Immune mechanisms in asthma subgroups

We aim to identify underlying molecular mechanisms of the immune system in subgroups of detailed clinically characterized asthmatics and healthy control subjects are used.

Job assignments
The successful candidate will work at Krefting Research Centre at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg. The primary focus will be to investigate the immune system in subgroups of asthma via in vitro studies as well as ex vivo analysis of human blood, bronchial biopsies and sputum samples. Experimental animal models for allergic inflammation may also be used.

Eligibility

Assessment
The applicant must have an excellent understanding of immunology and respiratory research. The applicant should have experience of the following experimental techniques; flow cytometry, western blot analysis, real time PCR, in vitro cell culture and laser capture microscopy. Earlier work in the microRNA field is a merit. The applicant must have a strong sense of team work and experience of industry collaborations is a merit.

A proven track record of scientific publications in per review scientific international journals is required. Excellent knowledge in written and spoken English are necessary.
