Information about the division and the department
At the Department of Electrical Engineering, we conduct internationally renowned research spanning many fields and including information and communication theory, machine learning, and signal processing. We offer a dynamic, supportive, international research environment with about 150 employees from more than 20 countries and an extensive national and international collaboration network that encompasses both other academic partners and industry. Our working language is English.

The division of Communications, Antennas and Optical Networks conducts cutting edge research covering several aspect of communication infrastructures. The Optical Networks (ON) group performs research in network architecture design and optimization, control and management, datacenter networks, fiber access and mobile transport networks, network sustainability, reliability, security and survivability, and converged fiber-wireless networks.

About the position
The position serves for the project National Quantum Communication Infrastructure_Sweden. The project aims to establish the national quantum network that allows quantum secured connection to vital parts of Swedish society. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, implementation, assess and deployment of quantum communication networks. The ideal candidate has the freedom to formulate and solve the research problem within the framework of the project. Cooperation with partner institutions and travel from time to time is required. A limited amount of teaching and supervision may also be included in the position.

You will belong to a strong team of researchers in optical communications, organized in the research center FORCE. This center brings together researchers in communications, photonics, and electronics to solve hard problems in optical communications through a cross-disciplinary approach. The collaboration bridges traditional discipline boundaries and includes the whole chain from components to networks, from analysis to experiments.

Major responsibilities
• Design and implement quantum network concepts on state-of-art hardware
• Implement automated provisioning in a hybrid quantum-classical optical network
• Addressing the interoperability of classical and quantum communication channels in public networks
• Perform research within the framework of the project and present results in major journals and conferences.
• the position involves close collaboration within academia and with industry partners.

Qualifications
Mandatory
• PhD degree (equivalent, or close to completion) in electrical engineering or computer science
• A strong backgound in classical networking, including knowledge of network protocols, routing and switching
• Outstanding programming skills
• Excellent in software-defined networking (SDN) tools
• Knowledge of quantum secured communication systems
• Experience in building and executing experimental demonstrations and proofs of concepts
• Ability and motivation to carry-on high-quality research
• Strong track record demonstrated by publications in Q1 journals and top-tier international conferences
• Excellent communication skills in oral and written English
• Open and collaborative mind

Desirable
• Hands-on experience in fiber-optic systems
• Experience or course in quantum communication or equivalent
• Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration
• Course or experience quantum programming languages (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq) and quantum simulators

To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
