Department of Economics
We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to boost our team, and to contribute to an ongoing project focused on policy to reduce carbon emissions from the Swedish car fleet. The core of the project is to develop - using a unique micro-dataset - a rigorous, structural model linking the used and new car markets, and to use that model to help design an optimal scrappage subsidy to get older cars off the road.
Duties
The environmental economics group - https://www.slu.se/env-econ - is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to boost the research team. The successful applicant will be expected to develop their own research in the area of environmental and natural resource economics, and to contribute to an ongoing project - Scrap and Grab: Should Sweden introduce a vehicle scrappage subsidy? - focused on optimal design of a scrappage subsidy for older cars with a view to reducing carbon emissions from the car fleet. The project will assemble, and use, a unique micro-dataset of used car prices, which together with a micro-data set of vehicle registration, VKT (Vehicle Kilometers Travelled) and household register data, will be used to develop a rigorous, structural model to link the used and new car markets. Note that the position as a postdoctoral researcher implies at least 80 percent research.

Qualifications
Successful applicants must have completed a PhD in economics, or be expecting to complete their PhD by September 2024. Applicants should normally have completed their PhD no more than three years before the application deadline. Candidates must have strong competence in microeconomics and applied microeconometrics, and significant experience using econometrics packages such as STATA or R. Knowledge and experience in the following three areas are advantageous but not essential: (i) working with register data or other detailed household micro-data sets; (ii) structural econometrics and discrete choice methods with simulation; (iii) environmental economics. The ability to work constructively in a small group is essential. Successful applicants are also expected to be self-motivated, driven and to be able to work independently on (some aspects of) the project.

About us
At the Department of Economics, research and teaching are conducted in the subjects economics and business studies. The department has master's and bachelor programs in economics, and a PhD program. Priority areas in economics are 1) environment and natural resources and 2) agricultural economics.
