We are exploring ways to foresee the impact of changing a single aviation component on our climate and environment. It is great that there are still much needs to be done.

Project description
This year we have two new projects in related to air transport management launched, one national and one EU collaborative project, together with Swedish key air operation institutes and top European institutes on aeropsace research. Both projects will rely on the already developed framework for aircraft and propulsion performance computation and aircraft noise prediction.

Information about the division and the department
The department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences at Chalmers conduct fundamental and applied research in all modes of transport. The division of Fluid Dynamics is one of the seven divisions within the department. Research at the division covers turbulent flow (both compressible and incompressible), aero-acoustics, and turbomachines.

The research group of turbomachinery and aeroacoustics, consisting of two professors, one associate professor, one assistant professor, two researchers and 9 Ph.D. students, is part of the Fluid Dynamics division. Focusing on the area of air transport, the group works mainly with aircraft propulsion. This includes system level assessment, engine concept evaluation, and detailed component design and optimization, such as compressors, turbines, transition ducts and heat-exchangers, through implementing combinations of numerical modeling and experiments. Based on the in-house tools developed for aircraft propulsion system design and noise and emissions assessment, the research portfolio of the group has been expanded to multidisciplinary topics, such as air transport management.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities is to lead research activities in the national research project on investigating the interdependencies of future air traffic by high precision navigation, noise emissions as well as more environmental friendly aircraft. You are expected to develop the required functions and interfaces from the existing multidisciplinary framework, to explore scientific concepts listed in the project as well as your own and to communicate the results of the research verbally and in writing. At the meantime, you are expected to support with the supervision of a PhD student working in the EU collaborative project.

Qualifications
To qualify for the post-doctoral position, you must have:
• A Ph.D. degree in the aerospace area, preferably with a focus on air traffic management or aircraft aeroacoustics. The PhD degree should be awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
• Good skill in programming, preferably python.
• Good written and verbal English communication skills.

Additional merits that are considered:
• Documented advanced courses in related to aircraft design, aircraft navigation, trajectory optimization and multidisciplinary analysis are beneficial.
• Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation, as well as experience in collaborations with partners outside academia are meritorious.
• Analytical skills, communication skills and a passion to combine theory and practice.
• Good record of publications in related field.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
