Postdoc position in Clinical neuroscience and neuroimaging, with focus on studies of cerebral changes related to chronic psychosocial stress

Division
Department of Women's and Children's Health, Div of Neuropediatrics

The Ivanka Savic group is a member of the Stockholm Brain Institute (SBI), a center at the Karolinska Institute for cognitive and computational neuroscience (www.stockholmbrain.se). The centre has a widespread expertise in neuroimaging methods including fMRI, DTI and PET

Description of the project:
Cognitive and emotional decline related to chronic stress is a recognized phenomenon, yet the underlying mechanisms are not entirely clear. We are applying several brain imaging techniques, including PET, to investigate how the human brain is affected by psychosocial stress. The aim is to find biochemical markers of chronic psychosocial stress and develop new treatment strategies.

Duties
To actively participate in the design, data acquisition and analysis of the studies (including fMRI, DTI, measurements of cortical thickness, analyses of receptor binding). To present own ideas. To write and publish papers. Active participation in internal and external meetings and symposia with own contributions. To apply for grants within the scope of on going and own-initiated studies.

The group has a strong collaboration with UCLA, and there is a possibility for further international collaborations.

Entry requirements
The successful applicant is a highly talented, innovative and enthusiastic researcher, with excellent organization skills, critical thinking skills, and with a PhD in the field of human brain and behavior, with interest in brain imaging. The ideal candidate for the postdoctoral position will have expertise in the acquisition and analysis of MRI (VBM, DTI, fMRI) and good programming skills. Applicants with no imaging experience but with MD and experience of neurology or psychiatry, or with a strong track-record in cognitive neuroscience are also encouraged to apply. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a consistently outstanding academic record, including publications in international journals.

A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than five years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor's degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the last date for applications should be given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist.

Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their public defense is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent body must be submitted with the application.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

• A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
• A complete list of publications
• A summary of current work (no more than one page)
• Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
• Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)
The application is to be submitted on the NetRecruiter system.
