Welcome to Linnaeus University! A place for knowledge, ideas and development. For growth potential and a belief in the future. In Småland and in the world.

Department of Building technology works together with neighbouring institutions, Forest and wood technology, Built environment and energy technologies and Mechanical engineering, to create a research environment that includes "wood, wood technology, wood construction and sustainable built environment". The research environment is part of the Faculty of technology. The environment includes a total of around 60 employees including 12 professors and it is expanding considerably.

The present postdoc fellowship connects to a research project on computer tomography scanning and the influence of knots in structural timber with funding from the Swedish research council Formas. Within the project wood specimens, containing knots or parts of knots and surrounding clear wood will be CT scanned with um resolution. Then, based on the obtained data, local density and local fibre directions of the tissue connecting knots with clear wood will be determined and mathematical models describing the fibre flow in such areas shall be developed. The potential for engineering applications of the results obtained, e.g. prediction of strength of structural timber, shall be explored as well.
