Stockholm University announces
Post-doctoral fellow/Researcher in Epidemiology with specialisation in Statistics
at the Stress Research Institute
Ref. number SU FV-2249-14. Deadline for applications: September 7, 2014.
Tasks: The employee is expected to work together with epidemiologists, psychologists, sociologists and other researchers at the Institute to examine how physical and psychosocial stress as well as health behaviours, in working life and after retirement, influence subjective health, decision to retire and long-term development of health and disease. The primary task of the employee is to apply advanced statistical techniques (e.g. mixed models, generalized estimat-ing equation, latent class growth curves, multi-state modelling, and structural equation modeling) to examine the relationship between environmental exposures and several health outcomes, taking both confounders and attrition patterns into account. Analyses focussing specifically on mediation and complex associations between multiple factors over time will also be part of the job. The analyses will be applied on in-house longitudinal data, Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey on Health (SLOSH) in the Stress Research Institute. In addition to this the employee will have access to epidemiological data from major international occupational cohort studies and opportunities to influence future data collection. In addition also the employee is expected to function as a statistical consultant for the rest of the research unit.
The tasks would include advanced quantitative data analysis, writing of original research papers aimed at high-impact international journals, as well as writing of grant applications.
Requested qualifications: A PhD or equivalent degree in Statistics, Epidemiology, Demography, or a closely related subject is required. A foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to Swedish PhD is approved. To qualify as post doctoral fellow, the PhD should be completed by the closing date for this application, and not be older than 3 years (discounting parental leave). If a candidate who is not formally eligible for a post doctoral position has qualifications which in other respects fit the post better than the candidates who are eligible, the Institute may choose to convert the post to a limited term researcher position. Documented proficiency in using Stata, SAS and/or R is required, as well as documented experience in handling large-scale data, are required. If the candidate does not have formal statistical training comparable to at least a master in statistics, the candidate must also provide documentation proving that the candidate does not only know how to use statistics software, but has a theoretical understanding of the underlying statistical methods equivalent to a person formally trained in statistics. The applicant must be proficient in writing scientific text in English, and have good collaborative skills to be able to work successfully in a team.
Criteria see http://www.su.se
The position is full time and for an indefinite period not exceeding two years. Salary is negotiated in relation to individual qualifications. Start according to agreement.
Application:Applications must be written in English and include, copy of proof of PhD degree, dissertation, list of publications and copies of five selected scientific works, a description of how the applicant wishes to develop his/her research (maximum 3 pages) and references.
