This is a full-time employment for two years with starting date as soon as possible.

The position is mainly funded by the AIR (Action and Intention Recognition in human interaction with autonomous systems) project, which is a distributed research environment between Högskolan i Halmstad, Örebro Universitet, Högskolan i Skövde, and Viktoria Swedish ICT, supported by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation (KKS).

Research focus
The overall aim of AIR is to significantly further knowledge on the interaction of humans and autonomous systems that move in shared physical spaces. This is in response to the increasing amount of robots in human environments. The mutual recognition of actions and intentions between humans and the autonomous systems they interact with is crucial to ensure safety as well as public acceptance of such technologies. Therefore, the research will contribute to the success of future autonomous systems in society.

The particular research scenarios AIR will address are human interaction (1) with social/assistive robots in the home, (2) with autonomous transport vehicles in industrial environments, and (3) with autonomous vehicles in public traffic. These scenarios share the requirements that the autonomous systems must behave in a way that is unobtrusive and transparent to the humans interacting with them, and have cognitive abilities that allow humans to intuitively and effortlessly communicate their intentions and desired actions. Each scenario, however, considers different facets of the problem.

Addressing the challenge of mutual action and intention recognition therefore requires a well-coordinated long-term interdisciplinary research effort that integrates expertise in cognitive science, experimental psychology, human factors, human-machine interaction, robotics, computer vision, and artificial intelligence -as constituted by the AIR consortium and distributed research environment.

An important aspect of the position is to find connections to other projects within CAISR and on identifying common problems and finding solutions applicable across multiple domains.

Principal duties
The selected candidate will become part of the very dynamic and international research environment at the Center for Applied Intelligent Systems Research (CAISR), a part of Halmstad Embedded and Intelligent Systems Research (EIS) at the School of Information Technology. For more information please see: caisr.hh.se

The post as postdoctoral researcher is a qualifying appointment with the purpose to give the employee a possibility to develop its independence as researcher and to obtain merits that can lead to a competence for another post with higher eligibility requirements. As a postdoctoral researcher you are expected to be active in the research done within the research environments CAISR and EIS. The teaching load will be at most 20% of the time working hours. Furthermore, we expect you to take an active part in the continued development of the research environment and that you will take part in applying for research funding from various financiers, both in Sweden and abroad.

Qualification
The position is intended for someone with a recent PhD degree in Image Processing or closely related fields. The research track record should demonstrate excellence in Motion Analysis, Image Analysis, and Signal Processing. Strength in applied mathematics is a meritorious qualification. Proficiency and aptitude in algorithm implementations in regard to, e.g. real-time, thin-clients, mobile devices, in relation to images are most welcome.

Salary
Salary is to be settled by negotiation. The application should include a statement of the salary level required by the candidate.

Application
If the application cannot be sent via Halmstad University's recruitment system, the application must be sent via regular mail to: Halmstad University, Registrar, Box 823, 301 18 Halmstad no later than 2015-12-20. Please quote reference number ITE 12/15.
