The School of Engineering, JTH, is one of four schools that are part of Jönköping University. It is our vision to be leaders in Europe in developing and spreading new technology and knowledge that reinforce the international competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.

JTH offers education at all levels. Contact with industry is an important part of our education in order to ensure that the education is anchored in reality, and to acquire practical experience.

Research and third-cycle education are targeted at Industrial product realisation in cooperation, especially applications for small and medium-sized enterprises. Research takes place in collaboration with companies, research institutes and other university colleges of technology, in common projects.

Research at the department, of materials and manufacturing, is multidisciplinary and includes product and materials development.

Emphasis is placed on the component properties (internal material structure, mechanical and physical properties) and their relationship to the production process. The research includes activities in subjects such as fluid dynamics, engineering mechanics, solid mechanics, materials science and materials engineering, material physics and chemistry, as well as simulation and optimization. Part of our research applies to the product realization chain. This research is mainly in the interface between design and manufacture/use, and takes into account the particular characteristics of products. The purpose is to conduct basic research to solve challenges regarding materials in advanced cast components and their manufacturing, in close cooperation with industry and research institutes.

Job description

The position includes 80% research within the project, and 20% teaching/administrative duties.

The research project aims to enable additive manufacturing of toolings with the correct properties primarily for high pressure die casting, as well as for sheet metal forming. The main issue concerns how additive manufacturing should be used to produce tools with reliable and predictable characteristics and performance. The questions in the project covers aspects of production of new tools for production, mix materials to cater for remanufacturing and innovative mix of material to shorten build-time. The project deals with issues surrounding how defect free material should be produced and to result in a strong and tough material with similar properties as the hot worked tool materials used today. The project includes lab-scale investigation of the properties and uses of tools in production.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a doctoral degree in the field of materials engineering or mechanical engineering. You need to be fluent in written and spoken english, swedish is meritaded.

It is meriting if you have; experience from additive manuafacruting and simulation of microstructure formation, knowledge in Celluar automata and/or having experience from tool/steel materials research.

You need to be a team player and self-driven with a strong interest for materials science.
