Project description
All ongoing projects are in the fields of molecular epidemiology and taxonomy especially SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology and evolution, taxonomy of Campylobacter sp., molecular epidemiological investigations of outbreaks caused by different microorganisms and evolution of virulence and antibiotic resistance genes.
The advertised position is with the research group of Assoc. Prof. Rene Kaden.
Duties
The candidate will be involved in planning experiments, analyzing of data - especially whole genome data, writing research reports, manuscripts and should instruct PhD students which shall work on the above described projects.
Requirements
PhD degree in microbiology (or comparable). The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
It is required to have experience in classical microbiology, molecular techniques (PCR) and in vitro cell infections. Skills in sequencing esp. Nanopore, bioinformatics, coding and knowledge in serology are advantages.
We attach great importance to personal qualities such as good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, as well as how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the abilities necessary to carry out the intended research. Candidates must be able to express themselves very well in spoken as well as written English.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of one year with the option of a prolongation dependent on the project financing. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date June 1st 2022 or earlier as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
