Corporate description...

Research will be conducted in two projects in ecology and conservation biology led by Thomas Ranius and Pär Forslund, respectively. The work includes analyses and writing, using already collected field data (on moths and birds, respectively). The data is complex, incuding entire species communities with both a spatial and temporal dimension.

The position is at the Department of Ecology in Uppsala. Here we conduct empirical and theoretical research for sustainable forest and agricultural production and efficient biological conservation. Our research on populations, communities, and ecosystems forms the foundation for studying the influence of land use and climate on animals, plants, soils nutrient status, and greenhouse gas balances. Solutions are sought that will mitigate climate change, preserve threatened species, benefit biological diversity and ecosystem services, and control pests in forest and agricultural landscapes as well as in urban areas. Qualifications: The successful candidate should hold a PhD in Ecology or equivalent, and have completed a Ph D within the last 3 years. A solid background in statistical analyses including Bayesian statistics and including handling of spatial and hierarchical data is required. Experience from research on community ecology and using GIS is required, and it is an advantage if the research experience includes different organisms, questions related to patterns of species diversity and traits, and both more basic and applied aspects of ecology including effects of conservation measures/interventions. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team is necessary.

Form of employment: 8-months temporary employment, that may be prolonged.

Place of work: Uppsala

Extent: 100%

Starting point: As soon as possible, i.e. ideally 1st january 2018.
