Placement until further notice: Växjö
Scope and form of employment: 100 % during 48 months
The employment as a doctoral student is limited according to 5 ch. 7 § of the Higher Education Ordinance. The total employment period may not exceed the equivalent full-time postgraduate studies of four years. However, an employed doctoral student may to a limited extent work with the education of others, research assistance and administration. Such work may not exceed more than 20 % of full-time work, in which case the period of employment will be proportionally extended.
Starting date: 1 September 2022.
Job description
The duties include third-cycle (post-graduate) education up to doctoral degree, corresponding to a maximum of four years of full-time studies in one of five possible third-cycle education subjects: archaeology, comparative literature, English literature, history, and the study of religions. The third-cycle programmes include obligatory and electable courses of 60 credits (ECTS) and a doctoral thesis corresponding to 180 credits. The doctoral students play an important role in the research environment of LNUC Concurrences and in their respective departments and are expected to contribute actively by regularly attending seminars, workshops and other activities organized by the centre, the research clusters and the department where they are placed. Doctoral students are expected to spend most of their working hours at the Växjö campus of Linnaeus University unless their research or other work requires otherwise (e.g. fieldwork or archival research).
The doctoral students linked to LNUC Concurrences will also be part of the new Doctoral Programme in Global Humanities which will launched by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in 2022. They will be required to take part in the activities organised by the programme, such as seminars, retreats and course work, and to interact with the other doctoral students and teachers in the programme.
Context of the position
The proposed doctoral projects must be linked to the research field of colonial and postcolonial studies and to the research carried out within LNUC Concurrences, including the three research clusters of the centre. Currently, these are the Cluster for Aesthetics of Empire, the Cluster for Colonial Connections and Comparisons, and the Cluster for Migration, Citizenship and Belonging. The main supervisor must be a senior member of the centre.

Assessment criteria
Selection of applicants will be made with regard to the applicants' ability to assimilate the education at postgraduate level. The assessment will be based on the following criteria:
• The relevance, originality and feasibility of the research plan,
• The academic merits of the applicant, particularly the quality and relevance of his or her MA thesis or equivalent,
• Other relevant qualifications and references.
