At the School of Education, Culture and Communication our students are studying to be for example preschool teachers, teachers, special needs teachers, communications officers, language consultants, mathematicians and chamber musicians. Here we have the research specialisations of Educational Sciences and Mathematics. Our work takes place in cooperation with and in strategic agreements with preschools, schools, banks and companies, municipalities and public authorities in the region.

Position description
Mathematics and applied mathematics (MAM) is a research environment within the School of Education, Culture and Communication. MAM offers a lively environment with three full professors, a number of active researchers, and about a dozen doctoral students, many of whom are international. Every doctoral student is assigned at least two supervisors, one of whom is a full professor. The research area of the doctoral student should be within the areas of interest of full professor, prof. Anatoliy Malyarenko, i.e. financial mathematics and stochastic processes. Prospective students with a research area in mind may contact him to inquire about its suitability. Doctoral student will be employed at the Division of Applied Mathematics at the School of Education, Culture and Communication

Qualifications
Only those who are or have been admitted to third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education may be appointed to doctoral studentships. For futher information see Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).

To qualify as a PhD student in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, you should have a second-cycle (master level) general or professional degree in Mathematics/Applied mathematics, or in other natural science or engineering subject and completed courses in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics on second-cycle level or higher. You may apply even if you have not completed your degree, but plan on doing so before the PhD student position starts.
