The Newman Institute (NI) is a university college founded in 2001 offering bachelor degree programs in theology and philosophy as well as courses in cultural studies. A new study program on Environment and Justice was launched in 2015 in cooperation with international partner universities. The program is designed as a semester-long study abroad experience in Uppsala and Stockholm. Students take a full load of academic courses on environment and sustainability as well as other subjects, and also participate in field trips to Stockholm Resiliency Center, Stockholm Environment Institute, various nature areas, as well as to other European capital cities.
Work description
Plan and lead excursions for students participating in the Environment and Justice program. Excursions include outdoor activities in Uppsala and surroundings, as well as visits to other European cities.
Develop the program from the perspective of how environmental studies are conducted in the USA, and understand how this connects to environment work in Sweden.
Be a contact person and mentor for American students while they are studying at NI. Advertise the program at Jesuit universities in the USA.
Qualifications
Fluency in English and an understanding of American culture (preferably have lived in the USA)
Experience in academic /administrative procedures at an American university
A minimum of three years of university education in environmental sciences.
Experience and/or education in marketing
Experience in leading groups in outdoor activities
Good familiarity with Uppsala and its surroundings
