The Arena
AstraZeneca holds a unique position in respiratory disease, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis, with a range of differentiated potential medicines in development by leveraging novel small molecule combinations, biologics and devices.
The core purpose of AstraZeneca Patient Safety is to add value to AstraZeneca products and safeguard patients as well as the success of our business. Patient Safety covers the entire clinical life cycle of a drug from first time into man to withdrawal of a product from the market.
The Role
As a Patient Safety Physician you will bring expert knowledge in to the teams. You responsibility is to actively contribute to the development of efficient and safe use of new medicines, help to maximize the efficacy and safety of drugs already on the market as well as mentor less experienced colleagues. Your work will be integrated with cross-functional teams in Clinical Development using your expertise to put a wide variety of issues into a clinical context. Key features include:
* Responsibility for continuous safety assessment, evaluation and risk management of AZ products in various stages of clinical development and /or in a post marketing setting
* Proactive evaluation of the clinical implications of safety data from pre-clinical studies, clinical studies, literature and other information sources in order to predict the safety profile of products
* Provision of strategic clinical safety input into clinical development planning activities
* Responsibility for medical evaluations and input to responses to regulatory requests, periodic reports and documents submitted to regulatory authorities
* Support to a performance driven culture
* Ensuring compliance with global and local procedural documents
Minimum requirements in experience and competence
* Medical Degree and active license to practice medicine
* Previous experience from the pharmaceutical industry from a clinical development perspective and/or previous experience from pharmacovigilance activities
* Proven track record of integrity and high ethical standard
* A flexible, team and result oriented attitude, willing to contribute with own skills to deliver priority projects
* High and distinct communication skills, proficiency in oral and written English communication
* Strategic skills and high level of personal organization
* Strong interpersonal and team leadership skills, demonstrating flexibility, proven ability to deal with complex problems
Preferred experience/requirements
* PhD or other scientific/clinical research experience
* A demonstrated ability to understand epidemiological data
* Project management experience
