Job Summary:

As an extremely innovative Company, patent portfolio generation is seen as a major tool in helping Ericsson achieve its commercial objectives. The Company has more than 42,000 granted patents and files more than 1500 new priority applications each year.

Ericsson's IPR and Licensing organization is responsible for Ericsson's global Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) program and works closely with Ericsson's research and standardization organizations to secure technology and intellectual property leadership for Ericsson. The IPR and Licensing organization is a global organization with its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. It incorporates 10 major offices (patent units) in SE, CA, DE, UK, USA and other offices worldwide with more than 200 patent attorneys, licensing managers, portfolio managers and support staff.

Patent Unit Gothenburg Lund handles inventions mainly from the Gothenburg and Lund areas within the technical fields of antennas, microwave, packet core, and radio communication development areas. The unit is one of the biggest of the 10 patent development units within Ericsson IPR and Licensing team.

We are now looking for a Patent Professional to develop effective intellectual property assets protecting Ericsson innovations and technologies, the current role has a focus in microwave and antenna technical fields. A patent professional at Ericsson is responsible for all aspects of patent portfolio management. In addition to evaluating invention disclosures and filing patent applications, the candidate will also be responsible for all aspects of prosecution and maintenance of patent portfolio.

The role includes extracting and identifying patentable inventions, assessing business, technical and legal merits and procuring legitimate patent protections in various jurisdictions in accordance with Ericsson's overall strategies and guidelines. Such scope may include acquiring and evaluating invention disclosures, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, and handling own or Ericsson-wide patent sub-portfolios. Furthermore, there are opportunities to support licensing and assertion activities of patents or patent portfolios against potential licensees. You will collaborate with inventors and engineers, other parts of the IPR and Licensing team, external attorneys, and R&D Management.


As a Patent Professional you will:

Liaison with inventors and R&D organizations to retrieve inventions, evaluate and decide on appropriate action for inventions together with support from Patent Review Boards.
Draft and prosecute patent applications.
Handle all aspects of the patent application life from idea to granted patents in all jurisdictions.
Coordinating outside counsel in different jurisdictions.
Participate in Portfolio Management & Claim Charting.
Participate in oppositions and invalidations.

Key Qualifications and Requirements:

Education: Minimum a master degree in a technical field relevant to the technical fields of the position
Experience: Minimum 5 years of technical working experience
Domain Knowledge: High level of knowledge in the technical fields of Microwave, Antenna, and/or Signal Analysis areas
The preferred candidate is a partly or fully qualified European Patent Attorney or is willing to undertake studies to become a fully qualified European Patent Attorney
Patent Process Knowledge is meritorious
Local Laws & Regulations Knowledge is meritorious
