hela Sverige The Patent Manager works in capacity of a staff function role and has no direct reports. Along with other Patent Managers you will be supporting activities linked to total Volvo CE patent portfolio and IPR strategy that includes owning and maintaining of IP portfolio consisting of Patents, Utility models, Design Patents, Trade secrets among other forms of company know-how.
At an operational level this role is to act as single point of contact for any IPR related issues & help transition to centralized IPR management for all Volvo CE?s Road Machinery patents based out of Hamlen, Germany and Shippensburg, USA; Utilities; and also to be responsible for the excavator machinery based out of Konz, Germany and Belley, France; ideally this role could suit best if a person based out of one of the mentioned Volvo CE sites in Europe.
Strategically speaking, this role is to lead Volvo CE cross-functional Patent Committees & Engineering Boards to help turn bright new ideas into patents assessments and invention disclosures; it is to deliver qualitative & quantitative improvements; it is to be a guide in domestic & international filing; maintain budget, anniversary evaluations of patents and general health check of IP portfolio in his/her area of responsibility to help build & protect a robust Volvo CE IP landscape
Core Responsibilities:
Manage inventor and stakeholder interfaces
Manage evaluation of invention notifications
Manage outsourcing of any IPR related activities (e.g. to Volvo Corporate Patents)
Manage the IPR budget
Manage IPR disputes
Update of Volvo common tools (Patman)
Support competitor infringement studies
Support project clearance of new technology
Support analysis of competitor patents as input for the technology planning process
Support improvements of the Volvo CE IPR strategy
Prepare for patent committee decisions (secretary)
Remuneration payment confirmation
Arrange IPR education for management and inventors
Knowledgeable of regional constraints, e.g. local laws & labor union agreements
Drive IPR Council meetings
Participate in Volvo Group IPR forum (optional)
Required Competencies:
Exposure to IT tools, knowledge of IP application a plus
Experience in Patents arena with filing & search a big plus
Self driven, structured
Appreciation of Abstraction(s) ideas of invention
Understanding of (patent) claims, validity, and rights
Constellations of prior art-work, controls, and published IP
Judgment, e.g. increase awareness for infringements in projects
Excellent Communicator in English, a must
Teamwork
Experience in IPR
Minimum Years of Experience Required:
Knowledge of German and French, a plus
Travel up to 20%
Minimum Education Required:
MBA, M.Sc. Industrial Design or similar
5+ years experience in leadership roles
Understanding of technology needs in Volvo CE Field of Use
